Our History

MelKay was founded in 1951 by Melvin Kallenbach with the goal of providing electrical services to businesses in the Tri-State area. Under Melvin's leadership, MelKay became one of Southern Indiana's leading electrical contractors. In 2004, Melvin's daughter, Linda Garrett, took over as president of the company, bringing over 30 years of experience in the industry. In 2016, Linda's son, Scott Hartig, became the new president of MelKay, overseeing the company's growth into a full MEP company. We've since expanded our services to include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), iron workers, millwrights, operators, and pipe-fitters, and added a plumbing division in 2020.
