Our History

MEI was established in 1991 as Mike's Electric, Inc., of Jay, Vermont. Since then, we have grown into one of the most capable and versatile full-service electrical contracting companies in Vermont. In 2013, we opened a branch office in Williston, Vermont, to better serve the Chittenden County area, western Vermont, and eastern New York. In 2014, we spun off our successful fire alarm and security system divisions as MEI Systems Integrators. In 2017, then-President Adam Fortier purchased the business and moved the company to a larger building in Westfield, Vermont.

Contractor and Customer Relationships

At MEI, we enjoy successful working relationships with many of the general contractors in Vermont, including DEW Construction Corp., PeakCM, LLC, Bread Loaf Corporation, ReArch Company, Wright & Morrissey, Inc., Kingsbury Companies, and more. We have a proven track record of designing and installing a full range of electrical solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial needs, with projects ranging from residential whole-household generators to building renovations and remodels to multi-million dollar new commercial and industrial construction. We have worked on solar and renewable energy projects throughout Vermont and have also secured multi-year State and Federal governmental contracts for electrical work, as well as for fire alarm and security systems, in Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Maine, and Massachusetts.

We place great emphasis on our relationships with our customers. We focus on the overall picture to understand our customer's needs and project schedules, establishing priorities and milestones, as well as coordinating activities and participants, to ensure a successful turn-key outcome, delivered safely, on time, and within budget. We pride ourselves on the ability to respond to contracting requirements by implementing the latest technologies and industry practices to provide customers with the solutions needed for their success in today's marketplace.

Our Staff

Our staff is the backbone of our success, with experienced project managers, designers, and estimators. We employ over 65 employees, many of whom are Master Electricians and Journeymen Electricians. We participate in the Vermont Registered Apprenticeship program, as well, helping educate and train new electrical workers. This program ensures that all our Apprentices have received the proper education and on-the-job training. Several employees are also certified and trained as fire alarm technicians and security system technicians. At MEI, we are very proud of our safety record. Continuous training for our entire staff ensures that our electricians and technicians will perform safely and exceed the requirements a project demands.
